aBOUT SUNNY
I’ve been in the teaching and learning space my entire career, working to have the greatest impact for the stakeholders that I’ve served. As a first-generation college graduate, I am the product of progressive policies and programs, and public schools. I’ve had caring and rigorous teachers, coaches and mentors who believed in my potential and helped to show me what I was capable of.
I am Mama to Lawrie, wife and best friend to Paul, and a friend to many! I’m somewhat of a late bloomer- turns out that when you mull over and wrestle with big ideas, you can sometimes arrive late to the party. (Is being late to the party still fashionable?) I’ve been described as insightful, in possession of a dry and quirky sense of humor, strategic, intentional, conceptual, bold, balanced, quietly intense, and values-driven.
I enjoy a quality cocktail, am a Myers Briggs fanatic and an avid NBA fan. My very particular/peculiar/niche party trick is to draw upon my informal research about what the Myer Briggs type I think certain NBA players and coaches are, and match them up with what type I think you are! For the curious, I am an INFJ (which I share with Chris Bosh).
My hobbies include photography, film and digital (some of my photos are on here!), taking care of my plants, and reading a good book or article. I have to admit that I’m a sucker for a feel-good narrative- watching an underdog overcome obstacles can make me tear up!
I was born in Seoul, grew up right outside of Seattle, attended college in Washington, D.C., studied abroad in Nairobi and Madrid, spent my most formative years in New York City, did a grad school stint in Boston, and have now called Los Angeles home for the last 10 years. I love to explore an interesting city, especially with Lawrie and Paul.
